Gabriele Jacobs: In Situ

Gabriele Jacobs joined NIROX’s residency programme on 3 October 2023. Throughout their residency, the Project Space at the Villa-Legodi Centre for Sculpture functioned as an open studio, which culminated in a public opening on 12 November that showcased sculptures and drawings produced by Jacobs while in residence, alongside earlier works, such as Cerberus's den, created for their MA at the Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town, titled “Reforming the Monstrous,” and earlier works that provide some background to the evolution of their practice. During their residency, Jacobs created a number of unfired works from foraged clay, worked on charcoal and ink-based drawings, and some wooden sculptures, created from fallen trees in the region.
